Report a Student Absence

Attendance & Tardy Information

Daily attendance, arriving on time, and remaining for the full day are essential to your child’s academic success. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and instruction begins promptly at 7:55 a.m. and continues until dismissal. Every day and every minute of learning matters, so we appreciate your partnership in ensuring your child is at school, on time, and ready to learn!

To ensure your child's absence is properly documented, please click the Report an Absence button Report an Absence  and complete the form OR you may submit the absence through ParentSquare  ParentSquare But please do NOT do both. Doctors' notes can be brought into the office by the parent or the student. 

          ** You many check Aeries to ensure you communication was received however please allow 24 to 48 hours for it to be reflected in Aeries. 

TARDIES

  • School begins at 7:55 a.m.
  • If your child is not in their classroom at 7:55 a.m. when the bell rings, they are considered TARDY for the day.  
  • If your child has a dental or doctor appointment in the day and they will be arriving late to school, make sure you bring a note from the dentist or the doctor.

Excessive tardies and/or absences will result in a warning letter from the assistant principal. If excessive and/or unexplained tardies and/or absences continue truancy will then be called.

ATTENDANCE

  • Attendance is taken daily at 9:40 a.m.
  • If your child is not at school when the attendance bell rings, they are considered absent.
  • If your child is off campus during attendance time (part of day or whole day) for sickness or has a doctor’s appointment, please send a parent or doctor’s note within 3 days of the absence.
  • Please provide written documentation for early dismissal. Checking a student out before 2:45 pm counts as “early dismissal” and is considered unexcused, unless we have documentation of an appropriate “leave early” reason.  Possible excused reasons for early dismissal include dental/medical appointments, funerals, and personal illness determined by the school nurse.

TRUANCY

Students without any documentation accompanying tardies or absences or who exceed four (4) parent notes each semester are considered truant and will be referred to the KISD Truancy Tribunal which includes:

  • Court dates
  • Daily sign in sheet at campus front office or with each teacher
  • Considerations by the Truancy Majestry
